Before a client calls a lawyer, they look at the lawyer. The bio photo is on the firm site, the LSO referral trail, LinkedIn, the deal announcement, the conference program. For most lawyers it is the single most viewed professional asset they have, and it is doing sales work every day.
Which is why the usual state of a firm's People page costs more than it seems: the partners photographed one year, the associates another, and the newest calls with whatever they had from law school. Clients notice, and so do the students you are recruiting.
The fix is one standard, applied to everyone, and a system that keeps it applied as people join.

How it works in practice
A Toronto law firm sends me every new associate as they join. The arrangement started with one partner's headshot and grew because it was easy: a set price per person, sessions booked around the firm's schedule, every portrait matching the ones before it.
Their People page reads like one firm, not like five different years. Nobody there thinks about photography anymore.
What it costs
Two ways to price a firm. Both include travel and on location work anywhere in Toronto and the GTA at no extra charge.

One retouched file included for each person. Additional retouched files are $100 + HST each.
Option B · by the day
$2,500 + HST per shooting day
An eight hour shooting window with no limit on how many lawyers come through it. Every image is culled, exposure and colour corrected, and shot to need as little retouching as possible. What is not included is per image retouching, so skin texture and blemishes stay as they are on the day. Retouching is available at $100 + HST per file, ordered by the firm or by each lawyer individually.
Roughly what fits in eight hours: about 30 people at a considered pace, about 45 at a standard pace, and 80 or more at a high volume pace. Additional days at the same rate.
Below about 25 people Option A usually works out cheaper. Above that, Option B does. We settle which one suits the firm at the consultation, and whichever you choose, the rate is written down and it holds.
This is what the standing arrangement is worth. A firm of twenty settles at $200 a head. When one associate is called in March, a single one off headshot would normally be $300. Under the arrangement that associate is still $200, in the same setup, with no new quote.

Common questions
How long does each lawyer need?
About twenty minutes. Sessions run on a schedule so people step out of their day, get photographed, approve their image on the big screen, and get back to work. A ten person firm is typically done in half a day.
Can you photograph at our office?
Yes, and most firms prefer it. I bring the studio to a boardroom or spare office, one consistent setup, so the results match studio work. Firms can also come to the Oakville studio or Toronto studio space.
We hired three new associates. Do we redo everyone?
No. That is what the standing arrangement is for. The new associates are photographed in the same setup at the same price, and their portraits drop into the People page matching everyone else's.
Our partners hate having their photo taken.
Most people do. Direction is the job: I guide every session personally, nobody has to know how to pose, and everyone sees their images live and approves before they leave. The lawyers who dread it tend to be done fastest.
How fast do we get the files?
Each person chooses their favourite during the session, and retouched files arrive within five business days of selections. Rush is available on request, useful when an announcement has a date.
